“Stay Alert! Go: Unforgettable Youth Exchange in Cyprus – A Journey of Peace, Culture, and Collaboration”

September 10, 2024 (Tuesday)

We began our day with breakfast at 8:30 a.m., setting a positive tone for the activities ahead. Shortly after, all delegations gathered at a Cypriot school, where we played a fun game and engaged in discussions on important project-related topics, such as “What’s the most positive thing that has happened in your life?” and “Is peace achievable?”

During the first session, we had the pleasure of meeting the mayor of Pano Arodes, a warm and supportive figure who welcomed us to the community. We also held a cup lottery, adding a touch of excitement to the day.

Lunch followed, and most participants ate heartily. During the break, a few younger attendees explored the town, even picking fresh fruits along the way.

In the afternoon, we participated in interactive games similar to Chinese whispers. These activities sparked deep group discussions on whether leaders are necessary, the role of punishment, and other thought-provoking topics.

To wrap up the day, the Latvian team organized a cultural activity. In small groups, we acted out sketches that explored cultural differences. Dinner followed shortly afterward.

We ended the evening by celebrating Dimitri’s birthday (from the Ukrainian group). We sang, wished him well, and enjoyed two cakes in his honor. This wrapped up a wonderful second day in Cyprus, and we eagerly looked forward to more memorable experiences.

Our day began with a peaceful and refreshing meditation session led by local residents, Vivienne and Barry. We then immersed ourselves in creative activities—painting stones and coloring books—allowing us to connect with our inner selves. Afterward, we headed to the sea, where we swam, sunbathed, shopped at local stores, and savored delicious Cypriot cuisine. It was a day of pure relaxation and joy, leaving us with many cherished memories.

Later in the morning, the Ukrainian delegation led an engaging language activity. We were divided into groups, learned words and cultural facts from a selected country, and created dialogues in the chosen language. This was followed by a lively Bingo game and a round of musical chairs, both organized by the Jordanian team, which brought plenty of fun and laughter.

The Bulgarian team took us outside for a “Rock, Paper, Scissors” tournament and an inclusion exercise where some participants role-played as people with disabilities, fostering empathy and awareness.

Today was one of the most productive and educational days of the project. We began with the Cypriot team leading a workshop on the “Culture of Peace,” followed by a session from the Jordanian team on media literacy. Participants were tasked with creating media pieces on topics like mental health and climate change, which are highly relevant to our lives.

After a coffee break, the Jordanians introduced an exciting murder mystery workshop related to fake news. We analyzed clues to solve the case, but only one group managed to identify the culprit due to the complexity of rational thinking involved.

After lunch, the Latvian team conducted an insightful session on media literacy, where we shared ideas and presented them creatively. In the latter part of the day, the Ukrainian team led a discussion comparing human and animal rights, providing food for thought on ethical considerations.

The day concluded with a fun quiz night hosted by the Jordanian team. Teams competed in different categories, sparking friendly competition and deepening our knowledge.

We began with a delicious breakfast prepared by the Bulgarian team, followed by an engaging trip into the city where we spoke with locals about peace. Their diverse perspectives added richness to the conversation and gave us a deeper understanding of the community.

After lunch, the Latvian team led a workshop on disinformation, propaganda, and critical thinking. The session illuminated how these issues influence our worldview, sparking valuable discussions.

Post-coffee break, we explored “nonviolent activism” in our national groups, reflecting on previous parts of the program and discussing peaceful ways to create societal change. The day ended with a lively ping pong tournament organized by the Bulgarian team, injecting a bit of lighthearted competition into our evening.

September 16, 2024 (Monday)

The day began with a traditional Ukrainian breakfast, graciously prepared by the Ukrainian team. Our first session involved presenting local initiatives developed during the second phase of the Erasmus project in Georgia.

The Bulgarian team then led a session on “Peace-Building Tools and Methods,” where we role-played conflict resolution scenarios. After a coffee break, we dove into “Hybrid vs. Modern War,” led by the Cyprus team, which helped us distinguish between the two types of warfare and their relevance in today’s geopolitical landscape.

Following a delicious lunch prepared by the Ukrainian team, we explored how to create and apply for our own Erasmus projects, gaining insight into the factors that contribute to a successful project. In the evening, after a session with the Ukrainian team, we enjoyed a serene stargazing session, cherishing the final moments of the project.

Our day started with a delicious breakfast prepared by the Latvian and Cypriot teams. The morning session, led by the Polish and German groups, focused on the Erasmus application process. After a coffee break, we delved into a session on Youthpass and project dissemination strategies, which enhanced our understanding of project development.

In the afternoon, we presented our project ideas, and the “Healthy Lifestyle” project was selected as the best. We then evaluated the Youth Exchange and reflected on how we had grown in knowledge, skills, and experience. This session also allowed us to express our gratitude and thoughts about each other.

In the evening, we celebrated with a farewell party, where we received certificates and enjoyed our last moments together.
